The Independent Duchy of Corussa is a North America-based roleplaying guild in Guild Wars 2, slated to roll on the Tarnished Coast server. Our vision is the formation of a vibrant, independent RP community that can stand on its own feet, while also participating with the community at large.
The premise of the guild is an independent state formed outside of the structure of Krytan rule, where adventurers, craftsmen, soldiers, scholars, mages, and virtually anyone else can find a home, and work to build something greater.
The duchy itself falls somewhere in the neutral, leaning toward good range of the traditional alignment scale many D&D players might be familiar with, and allows for inclusion of characters that could be considered morally ambiguous, or even some that are evil and working toward the same ends as the duchy. Everything we do is meant to help our members have fun, and bring their characters to life.
OOC: We are roleplayers who enjoy all aspects of the game from PvE and crafting to Dungeons and PvP. We want a group of serious roleplayers to have fun with, and seek to build up a community as well as a guild, and to play out our character's lives as we do so. We hope to promote elite level RP without being elitist, and are happy to bring new roleplayers into the community if they want to learn the ropes.
IC: Citizens of the duchy come from all walks of life and a plethora of backgrounds. Governed by Duchess Mealla Aislin, with the assistance of a circle of advisors, the Duchy works to build a new life for people with a penchant for frontier/colonial life, adventure, or independence.
The duchy engages in trade of resources, as well as goods created by its artisans, and promotes the well-being of its people. The duchy's income is supplimented by privateering, and hiring out mercenaries (usually to the Krytan throne). There are many possibilities for a life within the duchy, because there are many paths of opportunity, be it as a craftsman or scholar, a member of the standing army, or the town guard, or one of a number of other sub-factions within the duchy, which all work together to make up the entirety of the community.
The chance for glory as a privateer may seem attractive to a Norn, just as the possibility to accumulate wealth and power may appeal to a Charr. An Asura may be attracted by the freedom to conduct research and experiments under the charter of the mage academy. Regardless of their motivations, practically anyone can find a place within the duchy.
